Title : Malana Village Trek
Category : Trek
Duration : 7 Days
Location : Himachal
Season : Summer (mar - june)
Autumn (sep - nov)
Grade : Easy
Little ahead of the beautiful Chandra Khanni Pass lies the tiny
village of Malana, an isolated community that has its own
language, customs and laws, governed by a parliament of village
elders called Koram. Beware! It’s not like the other friendly
village. Seek permission before you take pictures and don’t try
touching the temple walls or the villagers as the outsiders are
considered unclean.
The trail leads through picturesque landscape, birch forests,
rhododendron bushes, lush meadows which afford breathtaking
views - from the snow-capped Dhaula Dhar to the south, to
Hanuman Tibba at the head of the Solang Valley and the Ghalpo
peaks in Lahaul.
Day 01 : Drive Delhi to Manali.(2050m) 10-11hrs
Day 02 : Manali to Ganachalani (2700m) 5-6hrs
Drive an hour from Manali to Naggar. Visit the Roerich art
Gallery and proceed on the trek which takes 2-3 hrs to the
village of Rumsu. Visit the ancient wooden temple there and
carry on the trail through the dense mixed forest to reach the
campsite by evening.
Day 03 : Ganachalani to below Chanderkhani Pass (3650m)
5-6 hrs
The trail comes out of the woods to the beautiful meadows used
for grazing cattle by the villagers. Views of the high mountains
of the Pir Panjal range and the Bara Banghal range are simply
breathtaking.
Day 04 : Across Chanderkhani Pass (3650m) to Dadru(3000m)
5-6hrs
A short walk up to the pass early in the morning gives some
really impressive views extending from the peaks in the Lahaul
to those of the Parbati valley on one side and the small hills
on the other. The trail going down from the pass goes past the
meadows and the summer settlements before winding through the
forest of silver fir and oak to reach Dadru
